Dear Ladies and Gentlemen
Dear Chessfriends
„One game one language“ – this is the theme of the Chess Olympiad 2008 in Dresden. For the two weeks from 12 to 25 November the Saxon capital will be the meeting point of the chess world elite. I am looking forward to welcoming 1500 participants of more than 150 nations and federations here in our city. The world event will live up to its name. Worldwide, millions of eyes will focus on Dresden these days, when it is on “Elbflorence” to host the 38th Chess Olympiad.
Being a cultural metropole Dresden is a tourist magnet as well as a location for science and business, offering an ideal environment for the Chess Olympiad. The venue of the 2008 O-lympiad, the International Congress Center, is situated just on the Elbe river banks of the old town, within walking distance of such famous sights like the Semper Opera, the Church of Our Lady, Dresden Castle and the Bruhlsche Terrace or the Dresden Zwinger with its famous crown gate, the symbol of the Chess Olympiad.
Join in on the chess experience. Follow the exciting games at the International Congress Cen-ter or enjoy one of the many cultural programme offers where players and guests from all over the world get together with our Dresden locals. On the Chess Olympiad website you will find all up-to-date information concerning the tournament of the year.
Be there when it is Dresden’s move! I kindly invite you to explore Dresden, the chess capital, of the 38th Chess Olympiad!
One game one language.
Yours sincerely
Helma Orosz
First Mayor of the City of Dresden
