Conventions within the heart of Dresden: The International Congress Center
Modern Conference Architecture in the historical Old Town
Dresden, state capital of Saxony with about 480.000 inhabitants, already holds an excellent reputation as city of arts and culture. Numerous are the treasures in the museeums, breathtaking the architectural beauty, stunning the diversity and the level of the rich traditional music life and suprising the romantic landscape reaching along the Elbe all the way to the city center.
Thus, it is hardly astonishing that almost 9 million tourist visit Dresden annually and that about 3 million overnight stays are counted. Alone in 2005 more than 800,00 people took part in 12,900 congresses and conferences.
With the opening of the International Congress Centers (ICD) in spring 2004 the congress venue Dresden has become even more attractive. Its unique location directly on the lush Elbe banks, within the historical site of the Old Town, makes the Congress Center especially interesting.
Just as inspiring is the exceptional architecture on the Congress Center: the towards the Elbe wavelike, transparent building after an design of the bureau Storch/Ehlers from Hannover permits a wide view of the city's silhouette. The big congress hall with stage and ranked sitting level for about 1,360 people can be combined with five more halls up to a capacity of 4,150 seats. The ICD disposes of big foyer areas for conference accompanying exhibitions and events on different levels with a total expanse of approximately 5.000 m².
Dresden offers a congress center of short distances: from here the Semper Opera, the picture gallery "Old Masters" with the world famous Sixtinian Madonna or the in September 2006 reopened historical Green Vault lie within walking distance. Also, the landing stage of the Saxon paddlesteam flotilla or the restaurants around the Theater square and in the historical quarter along the Königstraße are to be reached within only a few minutes.
