Stamp for the Chess Olympiad 2008

Today is 'stamping day' in the Dresden city hall – the special edition stamp sale for the Chess Olympiad 2008 was launched at 9 am this morning by Dresden's incumbent mayor Dr. Lutz Vogel together with the president of the Saxon parliament, Erich Iltgen, and Dr. Heidi Brandt as representative of the Deutschen Post AG with a short ceremony. For one day the special branch post office can be found in the city hall cellar from 10am to 3pm for all souvenir hunters to purchase the collector’s pieces on the occasion of the Chess Olympiad 2008 in Dresden. The postmark which will be stamped with was designed especially for this promotion day.



The special stamp has a market value of 55 Cent (Euro) but is sold for 80 Cent, as the balance will be donated to the German Sports Aid Fund. Since this will be a unique and singular event the Deutsche Post AG additionally offers a special envelope in the design of the Chess Olympiad 2008. This can be obtained for further 70 Cent. Thus, the whole package consisting of postmarked stamp and envelope cost a total of 1,50 Euro

The promotion day of the Chess Olympiad is organised by the Deutschen Post AG, the association of Saxon Philatelists, the association for Saxon Postal History and Philatelie in cooperation with the city of Dresden. The post office can be reached through the entrance to the city hall cellar via Kreuzstraße.
