IBM's move - the company to participate in the Chess Olympiad 2008

The Chess Olympiad Dresden 2008 announces about six months before the first move on 12 November 2008 another national co-sponsor. The IT concern IBM Deutschland GmbH joins the largest chess event worldwide.



“We are very happy to be able to present with IBM another partner for the Chess Olympiad that does not only feature worldwide acknowledged competences in the fields of IT Hard- and Software, but also in the area of IT services. During the event, more that 500 chess matches will be broadcasted online. IBM supports this for the chess sport important service by providing server technology and IT services”, the president of the Organizing Committee of the Chess Olympiad and mayor of the City of Dresden, Winfried Lehmann, reports on the new partner. “IBM is as a strategic partner for the Chess Olympiad and its worldwide broadcast of immense significance.”

The IBM Deutschland GmbH supports the Chess Olympiad 2008 in Dresden by providing server technology and IT services. Therewith, the German subsidiary company of the worldwide IT concern engages itself for the first time in this fascinating game of pure intellect. “The IBM Corporation has a long combined tradition with the chess sport. We are looking forward to support this sport in line with the Chess Olympiad and are proud of this partnership with the City of Dresden”, announces Jörg Peters, Vice President Marketing of IBM.

The basic cooperation is already agreed on. Currently, the partners elaborate the contract which is to be signed until 1 July 2008.
