EnBW supports the Chess Olympiad
The Chess Olympiad Dresden from 12 to 25 November receives a new face. The City of Dresden, the Schacholympiade 2008 – Chess Foundation GmbH and the EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG as new main and presenting sponsor introduce the new signet of the event. It graphically combines the tournament logo with this of the new sponsor.

After the first edition themed “Opposites attract”, the Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden, main sponsor of the Chess Olympiad Dresden 2008, continues its campaign with chess motives. Starring Ronny Freudenberg, player of the German national league football club Dresden Monarchs, a poster has been published in which the national player and candidate for “Sportsman of the Year” fully dressed in his sport uniform plays chess against a banker.

21/04/2008Dresden ascends into 1st German Chess League
On their last match day, the chess team of the USV TU Dresden won the championship in the 2nd German Chess League East. With a clear victory of 6:2 against the now descending Leipzig-Gohlis team, the octet around the GMs Jens-Uwe Maiwald and Wolfgang Uhlmann celebrated the ascension into the 1st Chess League in the year of the Chess Olympics in Dres-den. Her birthday celebrated the Hungarian-American chess genius Susan Polgar on April 19th, 2008 in the Dresden Residence Castle. The former chess world champion was, on her great day, the star visitor of this year’s Press Gala. The glamorous meeting of journalists, politicians and business representatives this year will be themed “Rochade in black and white” – on the occasion of the Chess Olympiad Dresden 2008 from 12 to 25 November.
