FIDE announces 37 Olympiad arbiters

Past Thursday, FIDE has appointed 37 of the total of 50 arbiters who will be deployed during the Chess Olympiad 2008 in Dresden. The remaining 13 names are to be announced after the Presidential Board meeting on May 30/31. In the meantime, the list of arbiters is being completed by the German part as well.

More details regarding this issue may be read in the upcoming days. All in all, there will be appointed 100 arbiters for the Chess Olympiad, 50 of them to come from Germany. In addition, they will be complemented by FIDE officials such as the main arbiter, his two substitutes, some seven or eight named by the world association as well as the pairings commission.

For Juny 2 and 3 main arbiter Ignatius Leong from Singapore has announced his visit to the Saxon capital in order to get a picture of the actual state of preparations and the playing venue. Among the so far by FIDE named arbiters are ten Europeans, eleven Asians, six Africans and ten from North, Middle and South America.
