Chess legend Uhlmann promotes Chess Olympiad in Munich

Dresden, 19/10/2008

The Olympiad Ambassador Wolfgang Uhlmann was guest at the 11th International Fair for Business Real Estates in Munich on 6 October 2008 to promote the Chess Olympiad Dresden. During an internet blitz match against German junior talent Arik Braun visitors gathered around the presentation booth of the City of Dresden.

The booth of the City of Dresden in Hall B2 of the fair is densly crowded as chess legend Wolfgang Uhlmann is playing his Internet blitz match against Arik Braun. The Stuttgart resident Braun is member of the German national team.
„At chess just like at the real estate business it is important to develop strategies, logical thinking and planning as well as readiness to assume risks and creativity” explains Managing Director of the Chess Olympiad, Jörn Verleger. “A perfect fit.”

Dresden promotes the Chess Olympiad from 12 to 25 November. At the same time, a sporting event at the real estate fair gives a clear signal. With this, Dresden managed to get its case in the daily fair newspaper.
For it, Wolfgang Uhlmann was happy to come to Munich. For more than 50 years now the 73year-old has been playing chess. He himself has participated in 11 Chess Olympiads and was one of the ten world’s best players. Despite his age he is still playing federal league for his team USV TU Dresden. Uhlmann tells about the large number of participants in the Olympiad. 152 nations and a total of more than 2000 individuals have yet registered. His mimic speaks volumes, he smiles satisfied; little later he grabs the queen and wrinkles his nose. In the end, both agree on a draw.

To attract attention is vital. Almost all cities and regions court the audience’s favour. The Expo Real welcomes the big bosses; here the further developments are initiated. Examples are the Centrum-Galerie and the Wiener Platz in Dresden. This year, the Saxon capital and her partners offer areas at the Ferdinandplatz, Postplatz and Neumarkt. Dresden had prepared the fair exhibition together with Rostock.
