Tournament invitations for all chess fans

Those who haven’t been fortunate enough to qualify for the finals of the Germany Cup can sign up for one or more of the collateral tournaments taking place during the Chess Olympiad 2008. No matter what nation, gender or playing ability one has, whether one is organised in a chess club or just playing chess for fun - everyone who loves playing chess is welcome!



The following invitations are offered:

14.11.2008 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm  Tournament for Hearing impaired and Deaf
This tournament is especially adjusted to members of the German Sports Association for Deaf people and non-members upon handicapped ID. Depending on the number of participants, 5 or 7 rounds with a consideration time of 15 minutes per player and game will be played.
Registration: 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

14.11.2008 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm Tandem Tournament
This tournament addresses everyone who wants to compete as part of a team consisting of 2 members. 5 rounds with a consideration time of 10 minutes per player will be played. For individual person registrations the tournament manager will determine team compositions on-site.
Registration: 2:00 pm to 2:45 pm


16.11.2008 9:00 am to 1:45 pm Family Tournament
In this tournament, the teams also consist of 2 players who have to be related. The degree of relationship does not play a role. 7 rounds with a consideration time of 15 minutes per player will be played.
Registration: 7:00 am to 8:30 am


For everyone wanting to play several days, the following tournaments will be offered:

13.-19.11.2008 9:00 am to 1:30 pm Senior Tournament
This addresses the target group of seniors (Qualified are men born before 13.11.1948 and women born before 13.11.1958). Each day one round with a consideration time of 40 moves in 1 ½ hours and 15 minutes for the rest of the game will be played. Additionally, the player receives a bonus of 30 seconds for each move.
Registration: 7:30 am to 8:30 am

20.-24.11.2008 8:30 am bis 1:30 pm  Open Tournament
This tournament is intended for players with an ELO < 2000. 5 rounds with a consideration time of 40 moves in 1 ½ hours and 15 minutes for the rest of the game will be played. Additionally, the player receives a bonus of 30 seconds for each move.
The daily start of the rounds is at 8:30 am, only at the last day the final round starts at 3:00 pm.
Registration: 7:00 am to 8:15 am


13.-25.11.2008 3:00 Uhr to 5:00 pm/10:00 to 11:00 am (25.11.) Blitz Tournament
This tournament is offered daily at the same time as the Olympic rounds and addresses everyone. According to the number of participants, a maximum of 15 rounds (round tournament) with a consideration time of 5 minutes per player will be played.

Besides the just described invitations, the Deutschland-Cup surely is an interesting tournament for all spectators. In exciting preliminaries, altogether 64 chesslers from all federal states of Germany have qualified for the finals at the Olympics. The tournament takes place from the 16th to the 20th of November, starting daily at 8:30 am and at 3:pm on 18.11.2008. The matches are played on the olypmic chess boards.
