The Ladies at the Open Chess Olympiad

Dresden, 15/11/2008

There are 146 teams representing 144 nations at the 2008 Dresden Chess Olympiad. However, some women did qualify to play in the Open team.

In fact, there are five women representing their National teams in the Open Olympiad.
Most notable is of course my sister GM Judit Polgar who plays on board two of the strong Hungarian team. She has not participated in the Women’s Olympiad since she helped the Hungarian women’s team win the Gold in 1988 and 1990.
IM Ketevan Arakhamia who has played many Women’s Olympiads in the past for the first time plays on the Scottish Open team.
WGM Anya Corke, in spite of her young age, already lead the Hong Kong (Open) team at several Olympiads already.
The other two ladies are WFM Raisa Luna from Bolivia and WCM Ila Mody from the US Virgin Islands.
Congratulations to all of them!
