A cultural programme (with e.g. a chess exhibition at the Dresden Technical Museum or the musical “Chess” at the Dresden State Operetta as well as sightseeing trips for the participants of the Chess Olympiad will be organized. Whether Exhibitions or Events, whether culture or sports - everyone will find "something" besides chess.
Exhibitions
Chess belongs to Dresden as does the Crown Gate to the world famous Dresden Zwinger. Royal game and crowning town landmark of the Saxon capital – both combined can be found in the official logo of the Chess Olympiad Dresden 2008, being united as meant to belong together. The same goes for the exquisite cultural programme during the festival of the chess friends.
„White Gold" from Dresden – Exhibition of Dresden porcelainIn fall, the club "Dresdner Porzellankunst" (Dresden Porcelain Art) wants to make filigree and unique pieces of art from the Saxon Porcelain manufacture Dresden accessible to the public. In the scope of the Chess Olympiad Dresden 2008, a touring exhibition shows selected chess games made of porcelain and like-kind material.
Chess and Intelligence - from “Schachtürke” to Chess Computer- special exhibition at the Technical CollectionsArrived on schedule for the Chess Olympiad, after 200 years of absence will the world famous and legendary “Schachtürke” return to Dresden. The roots of the chess game – exhibition at the Japanese PalaceThe roots of the “royal game" are situated in Asia. On the occasion of the Chess Olympiad, the Ethnological Museums Dresden and Leipzig take the try to approach the topic with an exhibition called "Chess and its Asian relatives”.
Chess memories in the City MuseumIn the “Storage of the Present" of the Dresden City Museum, interesting evidence and memories of extraordinary chess games and exceptional chess players will be exposed.

Musical "Chess" presented at the Saxon State OperettaHand to Hand, move to move, until the opponent is checkmate: Chess is a fascinating game, not only in the tournament hall of the Chess Olympiad Dresden 2008, but also in the State Operetta Dresden. Starting 26 June 2008, the operetta will stage the musical "Chess", which was produced shortly after the break-up of the Swedish pop band ABBA. Both male members of the band - Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus – surprised the world with this unique project which had been realised with writer Time Rice and staged its world premier 1986 in London.
