Volunteers are the soul of the Euro 2007 and the Olympiad

By now, volunteers do more and more play an important role in the organization of major sporting events. The ideals of voluntary helpers are based on the idea of an altruistic support for the development of the human society. After all, it was voluntary work and honorary aid that have led to worldwide success of the sports movement throughout time.

According to studies of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of 1999 the beginning of voluntary work goes back as far as the Olympic Games in Stockholm (1912), where helpers were initially recruited from non-sports organizations such as girl and boy scouts. As time passed volunteers started to grow from their underpart into a key role in the realization of grand sporting events.

The complexity of the organization of the European Chess Championships 2007 and the Chess Olympiad 2008 requires numerous volunteers with various experiences and abilities. Thus, by now an enormous level of organization is neccessary to place volunteers in optimal positions according to their capabilities.

A special volunteers outfit will in Dresden, too, help to easily identify volunteers and to bring up team spirit of pride and unity amongst them. The voluntary dedication opens up the possibility to take part in an unforgettable experience, to develop new skills, to gain work experience, to meet people from all over the world, to experience top chess players live and to partake in one of the biggest sports events of the world and, therefore, become a part of sports history.
